Women Who Have Experienced Homelessness Tell Their Stories Through Art (and dollmaking)
I Love a Parade is a unique arts organization that teaches women who are -- or have been chronically homeless to create high-quality art. Director Sandra Haff helps them find housing and solve other personal problems and practical problems--the emphasis is not on needs but rather on what the artists can learn about art, what they can find out about themselves, and what they can express and achieve. Art, specifically, dolls, doll pins, and puppets, has proven to be a powerful tool for the artists to find their own identities-to define themselves rather than accepting negative social definitions. The book shown is available for $24.95 from www.iloveaparade.org
